Samsung and LG Washer Error Codes Techs Actually See in Chicago
Error codes are not mystery poetry. Here is how Chicago techs translate the most common Samsung and LG washer codes into parts and next steps.
Write the code down exactly (including whether it flashes). Power-cycling clears intermittent glitches, but a code that returns on the next fill is a real fault.
Samsung codes we see weekly
- UE / Ub — Unbalance. Redistribute the load; if it repeats on small loads, check spider/drum bearings and suspension rods (clunk on spin).
- OE — Drain issue. Clean the pump filter first, then check drain hose height and pump ohms.
- DC / DC1 — Door not locking. Inspect the latch strike alignment and door-lock actuator continuity before replacing the main board.
- 4C / 4E — Fill problem. Verify water supply valves are open, screens in the inlet valves are not lime-packed, and the valve coils have continuity.
- 3C / 3E — Motor / hall sensor drive fault. Listen for a humming drum that will not turn—often stator, rotor magnet damage, or hall sensor on direct-drive models.
LG codes we see weekly
- IE — Sensing water fill. Inlet valve screens, household pressure, or a bad pressure switch / air dome hose cracked under the tub.
- OE — Drain. Same coin-trap ritual as above; LG filters love hairpins.
- UE — Unbalance. Same as Samsung; chronic UE on every jeans load can be a failed damper or bearing.
- LE / LE1 — Locked motor / overcurrent. Disconnect power, try turning the drum by hand. Locked = object between tub and drum or seized bearing. Free spin with LE = wiring or stator/hall issue.
- DE / dE — Door error. Latch assembly and wiring harness chafing at the hinge are common.
Reset that is worth trying
Unplug 5 minutes, then run an empty spin. If the code dies and stays gone, you had a one-off. If it returns, quote the code when you call—we bring the usual Samsung/LG latches and pumps on the truck for Chicago washer repair.
